I too live in Bhubaneswar. In the next day's morning walk (which I share with certain dignitaries),people were afraid that the naxals have reached our or their doorsteps. Yet like the biggest question of Yaksh in Mahabharat the powers that be chose to remain oblivious of the problem. All terrorism is born out of State apathy. At a latter date lumpen elements join it seeking pecuniary benefit.
It is more of a political problem then a law and order problem.Show of strenth by the  state is necessary . That alone would not solve the matter.Look at the genuin grievances, bring the marginalised elements into the main stream of nation building, provide primary health and education to all.
I am an industrialist, who also works amonst tribals in Orissa.Their status is seen to be believed. No electricity,no schools,no roads. Their liveshave not changed in last 300 years. The only probable presence of Government in these villages is a sole dysfunctional hand pump. And we talk about STP in Bhubaneswar.

 thabadcat,

Thanks for your comment. Yes, you are right. But I was trying to see the others point of view. Nothing can justify their heinous crime but perhaps, understanding the reasons might help in communicating with them and who knows we might have a solution.

Very interestingly woven story into the current situation. We can give human faces to all the terrorists around the world, but the fact remains that the crimes of suicide bombers, et al are horrific and whatever cause they may promote or support, are eclipsed by their deeds.

Hi lekha !

What's new in this! We are a hopeless nation who always wake up after the house is burnt. And we have a donkey like obstinacy not to learn anything from the mistakes. We are lucky that we are not yet burnt with the house, got away only with some burns, this time a third degree one.

A nice write up and good fusion piece there. Fusing news and story seamlessly.
